Llama is Acquired by River Protocol

We’re excited to announce the acquisition of Llama by River Protocol and Towns.

We started Llama because we believed that protocols were important infrastructure on the internet that needed to be served uniquely. Over a couple of years, we built a leading governance and access control platform for protocols. Protocols used Llama to manage their smart contract operations, protocol parameters, emergency functions, and treasury. River Protocol was one of our early customers and governance was always an important part of their product experience. It became clear after collaborating with Ben Rubin (former founder of Houseparty), Pat Fives, and the River team that a deeper partnership made sense.

Llama’s smart contracts will be directly integrated into River, providing every space with built-in governance tools. Key stakeholders, including node operators and space owners, can propose and vote on protocol changes through a secure, transparent system. Using Llama, every community on River will be able to automatically deploy their own fully onchain DAO with a treasury system. There are already tens of thousands of communities created on Towns.

It’s been an honor building Llama with Austin, Rajath, and Daniel.

We look forward to seeing how River and Towns users leverage Llama to advance their mission of building a user-owned and operated internet!
